# Transaction Limits

> Understand VelaFi's default transaction limits for merchants, individual users, and business accounts by country — and how to request a higher limit.

VelaFi applies transaction and withdrawal limits based on merchant type, user verification level, and the country in which each payment channel operates. These limits exist to satisfy the compliance requirements of each jurisdiction. Most defaults are set generously for the majority of use cases, and VelaFi provides a clear path to increase them when your volume requires it.

## Default Merchant Crypto Wallet Limit

When you successfully create a merchant, VelaFi automatically provisions a **crypto custody wallet** for that merchant. The wallet is active immediately upon creation with the following default:

| Limit Type | Default Value |
| - | - |
| Monthly crypto withdrawal limit | USD 10,000,000,000 |

> [!NOTE]
>
> This limit applies to the merchant's crypto custody wallet and governs outbound cryptocurrency withdrawals. Individual merchants in Argentina receive a default of USD 10,000. Fiat payment channel limits are governed separately — see the individual and business sections below.

## Individual User Limits

VelaFi classifies individual users into two tiers — **Consumer** and **Professional** — each with different verification requirements and transaction limits.

> [tab] Consumer Tier
>
> Consumers complete a minimal documentation review and have a quick approval process. This tier suits low-frequency or lower-value payment flows.
>
> | Country | Monthly Trade Limit (USD) |
> | - | - |
> | 🇲🇽 Mexico | 10,000,000,000 |
> | 🇧🇷 Brazil | 10,000,000,000 |
> | 🇨🇴 Colombia | 10,000,000,000 |
> | 🇵🇪 Peru | 10,000,000,000 |
> | 🇦🇷 Argentina | 10,000 |

> [tab] Professional Tier
>
> Professionals submit more comprehensive identity and business documentation and undergo an enhanced compliance review. This tier is suitable for high-volume merchants or users who require higher operational limits.
>
> > [!NOTE]
> >
> > Professional-tier limits vary by jurisdiction and are determined on a case-by-case basis during the compliance review process. Contact the VelaFi compliance team for details specific to your region.

## Business User Limits

Business merchant limits are applied per country after you activate the corresponding fiat payment channel. The table below shows default monthly limits for each supported market.

| Country | Monthly Limit (USD) |
| - | - |
| 🇲🇽 Mexico | 10,000,000,000 |
| 🇨🇴 Colombia | 10,000,000,000 |
| 🇦🇷 Argentina | 10,000,000,000 |
| 🇧🇷 Brazil | 10,000,000,000 |
| 🇵🇪 Peru | 10,000,000,000 |
| 🇺🇸 United States | 10,000,000,000 |
| 🇭🇰 Hong Kong | 10,000,000,000 |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Business limits become active only after you activate the fiat payment channel for the corresponding country. Channels that have not been activated do not count toward or against these limits.

## Requesting a Limit Increase

If your operational needs exceed the default limits, submit a limit increase request with additional compliance documentation. Accepted documentation typically includes:

* Proof of source of funds
* Business licences or registration certificates
* Audited financial statements

You can request an increase through two channels:

> [card] Upgrade Merchant Limit API
>
> Use the **Upgrade Merchant Limit** endpoint to submit a limit increase request programmatically. Attach the required compliance documents in the request body.

> [card] Email VelaFi Compliance
>
> Send your request and supporting documents directly to the compliance team at **[contact@velafi.com](mailto:contact@velafi.com)**. A team member will guide you through the review process.

> [!TIP]
>
> Prepare your compliance documents before initiating the request. Incomplete submissions extend review time — having all documentation ready upfront typically results in a faster approval.
