# VelaFi API Docs

> VelaFi lets you programmatically convert between fiat and crypto, run on-ramps and off-ramps, and send global payments — all through a single REST API.

VelaFi is a financial API platform that connects fiat and digital currencies across Latin America, the United States, Hong Kong, and beyond. Whether you need to convert local fiat into stablecoins, settle crypto into local bank accounts, or move money across borders using stablecoin rails, VelaFi provides the infrastructure through a single, unified REST API.

## Get Started in Four Steps

**1. Create a VelaFi account**

Sign up at [velafi.com/signup](https://www.velafi.com/signup) to receive your User ID.

**2. Create a merchant and complete KYC/KYB**

Submit your business or personal verification to unlock payment channels and receive a Merchant ID.

**3. Generate an API key**

In the VelaFi dashboard, enable API access and create your API key. Contact [contact@velafi.com](mailto:contact@velafi.com) to activate API access.

**4. Make your first API call**

Use your API key in the `X-BH-TOKEN` header and start placing orders in the sandbox or production environment.
